Our mission

Transform our little sisters from a young lady to the woman they are created to be by providing wisdom, knowledge, encouragement, and an image they can relate to through group sessions, goal setting, and accountability.

Opportunities

Big Sister

D.B. big sisters are women who care, support and provide an image our little sisters can relate to. Before we were big sisters we were the little sisters that dealt with things as adolescents. With self-determination, support and the right decisions, we learned and overcame. Having the opportunity to build standing supportive relationships to share what we have learned to help guide and build the self-confidence our little sisters need so they will not be distracted by what life has to offer, and they will continue to be the leaders they are meant to be.

How you help

Developing Butterflies is a community-based group mentoring program that practices a 1-on-1 mentoring match-up.  Once paired, little sisters may meet with their big sisters outside of group to catch up, receive assistance with a project, or attend community events.

About us
Developing Butterflies Big Sister Program was established April 6, 2016, by Gena McDonald.   Gena was born in Dayton, is a mother of two (a son and a daughter), holds a Bachelor degree in Applied Behavioral Science, Certified Confidence Life Coach, Certified Community Health Worker and is very passionate about helping young ladies or “little sisters” be confident in who they are to overcome their obstacles. She didn’t have a bad life, but growing up with three parents on drugs and witnessing domestic violence, she was already considered a statistic to repeat her environment.
Gena wasn’t involved in any mentoring or big sister program but realized that if she had a mentor or big sister, she could have made some better choices sooner-than-later, which is how Developing Butterflies came about; giving back what she didn’t have! She wanted to provide a program where little sisters could come be themselves and build strong, lasting relationships, while receiving support and guidance.  Â
