We are always interested in partnering with student groups and community organizations. Contact us, if your group is interested in helping out regularly in our homework rooms, leading an activity for our youth, or completing a short-term project.

Youth (Ages 14-17)

Dakota Center welcomes the involvement of individual students who like working with children and/or those seeking community service hours. As an after-school volunteer, you could be a homework helper, reading buddy, activity assistant, or even the leader of your own special project.

Adult Volunteer

Adults from the community are invited to help in our Homework Club after-school program. As an after-school volunteer, you could be a homework helper, reading buddy, activity assistant, or even the leader of your own special project. All adults working with children must complete a background check, provided free of charge courtesy of the Mentoring Collaborative.

How you help

Volunteers are essential to our ability to provide programs to people of all ages on Dayton’s West side. Because of your commitment to volunteering the center is currently in its sixth decade of building a community where there is education for the whole person-mind, body, and spirit.

About us

The Dakota Center is a community service center primarily devoted to offering educational and social programs to youth, adults, and seniors on Dayton’s West side. The Dakota Center has become a landmark in the MacFarlane neighborhood and offers a full calendar of activities. Clients number more than 1,350 who are involved in two or more programs per year. Accomplishments include students kept in school and alumni who contribute to society.
