How you help | We are always seeking individuals to volunteer and help give back to our community. Our volunteers assist with various jobs at the store including: accepting donations, sorting/organizing, pricing, running the register, and more. FISH is very flexible with volunteers schedules. Some of our volunteers come all day multiple times a week, once a week, some a few hours a week, and some once a month. FISH is grateful for any time that can be given whether it be a consistent schedule or not. |

About us | FISH began as an idea in 1979 when Barbara Smith realized that there was an unmet need of free or extremely low priced clothing, food and other necessities for people in Shelby County. She organized the first FISH movement, which was really only a phone number. With the help of the Sidney Police Department, Barbara would pick up a message each day from the dispatcher letting her know of a citizen’s needs and requests which were often for food, clothing or household items. Working with local groups and churches such as the Holy Angels Clothing Center and Shelby County Church Women United, new ways were implemented to meet needs. |
