Our mission	We are dedicated to increasing the level of functional literacy among the people of Clark County.

Opportunities	Volunteer Tutor You can help an adult or a child with basic literacy skills. We have adults who have struggles with reading and writing but haven’t given up. We will train you, give you the materials, set you up to tutor in our building, and support you every step of the way. The same is true for those who wish to help a child at our facility. We also provide opportunities to tutor an adult in learning to speak English. Ongoing Children Tutoring, Indoor Formal Weekdays, Evenings Tutor Join others who wish to help those in the community who struggle with reading or want to learn the English language. To become a tutor, you need to be a high school graduate or have earned your GED. You will need to attend a workshop which will introduce you to our curriculum and the resources available at the Center. You will be matched with a student based on the days and hours you are available. You must meet with your student twice a week for 1-1.5 hours each session. You do not need to have prior experience, just a desire to help a student. Items we need	Snacks We try to have a snack available for our students and any family members who come into our building. Individual bags of chips, cookies, fruit snacks, nuts, fresh fruit, and candy are just some of the snacks we like to make available. About us	The Coalition was founded in 1988 after absorbing an adult literacy program created by Edith E. Stager in the 1950’s. At that time, illiteracy among the people of Clark County was very high and Ms. Stager understood the importance and need of having a literacy program available to the people of this community. She was truly the pioneer of literacy among Clark County. The Coalition understood and saw the need that Ms. Edith Stager had and carried on in her footsteps.
